Visual Arts Grading Requirements and Behavior Plan
Please make sure to fill out the Contract Agreement for your grade level. Required Materials: 1. At least 4
pencils 2. Folder (if sketchbook has a folder this is not needed) or Sketchbook (at least 18 sheets of paper needed, extra for free drawing) 3. 1in 3 ring binder (optional) 4. Old shirt or apron (optional to protect clothes.) Please Note: Art class is unique. We will use a variety of materials such as different paints, charcoal, clay, oil pastels, etc. It is highly suggested that students bring in an old shirt or apron to protect their clothes. (This may be stored in the classroom)
Grading Requirements: The student’s grade is split into 3 categories: (Assignment will not be accepted more than a week late.) 1. 25% Sketchbook: The Student does not need to buy an expensive sketch pad. Any kind of notebook or even a folder with at least 19 sheets of paper is adequate. Sketches are assigned everyday and are worth 100 points a week (no matter how many days are in the week). Students are expected to make up work when they are absent; it is their responsibility to check for any missing work. (Students with a school related absence are not required to make up the sketch, please notify the ahead of time teacher.) Sketchbooks will be checked every Monday. 2. 25%Classroom Work:Another 25 % of the student’s final grade is factored by this category. The Student is required to complete a“Getting to Know the Artist”worksheet. The Composition hangs for the week and when ever they have time in class (between projects and Friday's) they are to answer questions and draw the picture on the back. Each GTKTA sheet will be worth 20 points. (This is an opinion paper that we will go over together in class so that they know what is expected of them). This assignment is only collected ONLY ON FRIDAY each week and will notbe taken more than a week late (unless they were absent). 3. 50%Projects: 50% of the student’s final grade is calculated from these scores which are based on each final project and classroom behavior. (Students can make up projects when they return from their absence.) Projects are only due on Wednesday’s. This category is also split in to 5 sub categories: Craftsmanship: ( Mastery level ) Following Specific Directions: ( Art Standards ) Creativity: (Originality) Presentation of Work: ( Display ) Completion of Work: ( Final Product )
Behavior Policy in the Art Room: Since this class deals with a wide variety of materials and media, it is necessary that students adhere to the behavior policy as noted below. During the first class meeting we will discuss and set the guide lines for behavior. Have Art S.K.I.L.L.S: SHOW: you are an artist. (No tracing or doing someone else’s work) KNOW: how to use art materials correctly. INSTRUCTION: follow direction and complete work on time. LISTEN: when the teacher is instructing. LEARN: classroom procedures. (Sketch and Clean up) SIT: in your assigned seat.
When behavior exptations are not met please refer to BMS Student Management Plan
